Nelson Gomes was born in the city of São Paulo, the state capital. He studied Journalism and graduated from FIAM- Faculdades Integradas Alcântara Machado. But before that, he graduated in Electronic Engineering from Faculdade São Judas Tadeu.

He switched from engineering to journalism and started as a broadcaster at Rádio Difusora de Taubaté. He then worked at Rádio Metropolitana, Rádio Cidade, Rádio Jovem Pan, and Rádio Musical. He joined Rede Bandeirantes in 1989, where he worked on radio and television. On TV Bandeirantes, he presented the Weather Bulletins and the “Jornal da Band”.

Announcer and presenter Nelson Gomes has been on TV Band News since its inauguration in March 2001, where he is the main anchor.

Nelson recorded important documentaries, such as the life of rubber tapper Chico Mendes, about the floods in São Paulo, about São Paulo under attack, and others.
